Double Brussels stitch.

Create a row of buttonhole stitches at the top of the design in exactly the same way as for single Brussels stitch; start at the top left hand corner and travel towards the top right hand side of the shape using a sharp embroidery needle.

Start the second row by bringing the needle up on the right hand side, leaving a small gap underneath the first row. Replace the needle with a tapestry needle and pass it from top to bottom through the loop of the last stitch in the previous row, tucking the thread underneath the needle as it is pulled through. The needle will not go through the fabric at any point while creating the second row and it is important not to pull the stitches tight; the aim is to replicate the look of the buttonhole stitches of the first row.
